VPN - Connecting to UONet via Cisco AnyConnect Client
The Cisco AnyConnect Client creates a secure connection back to UONet, the campus network, over the public Internet. This allows for use of UO resources (File Servers, Printers, Updates, Security, Campus Applications) from off campus locations.
Prior to launching the VPN client, the computer/device must be connected to the Internet (wired or wirelessly).
Windows (uoregon.edu Domain Joined computers)
The Cisco AnyConnect VPN client should already be installed on your computer. If it is not, please contact fassit@uoregon.edu for installation.
- There are two different ways to start the Cisco AnyConnect Client:
- Click Start>Cisco>Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
- Click the Cisco AnyConnect icon in the System Tray.
- Click Start>Cisco>Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
- If not already there, enter uovpn.uoregon.edu in the address box drop-down and click Connect.
- Enter your DuckID and password.
- The Cisco AnyConnect icon in the System Tray will add the gold lock and it will indicate that you are connected.
MacOS (uoregon.edu Domain Joined computers)
The Cisco AnyConnect VPN client should already be installed on your computer. If it is not, please contact fassit@uoregon.edu for installation.
- Open the Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client application.
- Enter the address: uovpn.uoregon.edu and click the Connect button.
- Enter your DuckID and password.
- You will see the connected icon in your system tray.
iPadOS
Configuring the AnyConnect Profile (if necessary)
- Open the AnyConnect app.
- Tap Add VPN Connection.
- Enter the following information:
- Description = UO VPN
- Server Address = uovpn.uoregon.edu
- Click Save.
- Tap Allow.
Using the VPN Profile
- Open the AnyConnect app.
- Toggle the AnyConnect VPN button on.
- Enter your DuckID and Password.
iPhone iOS
Configuring the AnyConnect Profile (if necessary)
- Open the AnyConnect app.
- Tap on Connections.
- Tap Add VPN Connection.
- Enter the following information:
- Description = UO VPN
- Server Address = uovpn.uoregon.edu
- Click Save.
- Tap Allow.
- Connection is now created.
Using the VPN Profile
- Open the AnyConnect app.
- Toggle the AnyConnect VPN button on.
- Enter your DuckID and Password.
Android OS
Configuring the AnyConnect Profile (if necessary)
- Open the AnyConnect app.
- Click OK on the Cisco AnyConnect message.
- Click Don't ask again checkbox and choose DENY.
- Tap on Connections.
- Tap Add VPN Connection.
- Enter the following information:
- Description = UO VPN
- Server Address = uovpn.uoregon.edu
- Click Save. - Your connection is now created.
Using the VPN Profile
- Open the AnyConnect app.
- Toggle the AnyConnect VPN button on.
- Enter your DuckID and Password. Hit Connect.
- When you're ready to disconnect, toggle the AnyConnect VPN button off.
Quick-start instructions to get to your files via the VPN.
Note that you need to be connected to the internet (either wired or wirelessly) before you connect using the VPN:
- UO Machines:
- MacOS - mappings to shared drives should be retained and the drives accessible once you connect to the VPN.
- Windows – After connecting to the VPN, you may see a red "X" to the left of the drive letter. You should just be able to click the drive letter and it'll connect and you'll be able to access files.
- Non-UO Machine
- Mappings (Windows):
- Right-click the Start menu, select Run and then enter one of the mappings below into the “Open” box. Click “OK” and you’ll be connected.
- As an example, if I wanted to map my Home drive, I would enter \\files.uoregon.edu\fs-files\home\kmcglinc.
- O: drive - \\files.uoregon.edu\fs-files\Home\<your duck id>
- H: drive - \\files.uoregon.edu\fs-files\
- Right-click the Start menu, select Run and then enter one of the mappings below into the “Open” box. Click “OK” and you’ll be connected.
- Mappings (MacOS):
- MacOS – Connect drives just as you do on campus.
