What is Barracuda Quarantine?

When messages are received by the Barracuda Email Security Gateway it checks them for anything malicious.

In some cases the message itself is OK and an attachment falls under the quarantine rules that are in place or the Barracuda Email Security Gateway isn't 100% sure that the email coming through is safe OR malicious so it "holds" the email.

How does Barracuda inform me of quarantined messages?

If any messages sent to you are quarantined you will receive an automated message at 08:00, 12:00, and 16:00 with a list of anything pending in quarantine. There will be links in the quarantine message with options to release or delete them. Example email is pictured below.

Note
Note: The quaratine email will include the External Sender Warning because it's coming from Barracuda.

How do I release my messages from quarantine?

You can click the "Deliver" link in the email message or if you are already logged into https://barracudaauth.uopd.orgbarracudanetworks.com/login/email you can click the "Deliver" link on that screen.

After you click deliver you will see a message at the top letting you know the message has been released.

What if I'm not sure the message is safe to release?

If you aren't 100% sure the message is safe to deliver you can contact FASS IT at fassit@uoregon.edu or call 6-2455 for assistance.

How long do messages stay in quarantine?

Messages will stay in quarantine for 30 days before they are deleted. If you release a message and allow it to be delivered it will be removed from quarantine as well.

When your quarantine list is empty it will appear like this:

Can I check quarantine more often?

Yes! Log in with your full UOPD email address at https://barracudaauth.uopd.orgbarracudanetworks.com/login/email. Your Barracuda password is different than the same as your regular UOPD login password.

How do I

reset my Barracuda password?

Your password for Barracuda is unique. If you aren't sure what it is you can click the Create New Password on the login screen and it will send you a new password.

Note

Note: The new password email will include the External Sender Warning because it's coming from Barracuda.

Warning

WARNING: Only select the characters or manually type the password into the Barracuda login field rather than copying and pasting. When you copy the temporary password in the email you receive make sure you are not copying the space on the end of it or Barracuda will not accept the temporary password.

How do I prevent messages from being quarantined?

If you want to prevent messages from a specific sender from being quarantined you can click the "WhitelistAllow list" button next to the message. Any future messages will be allowed and bypass quarantine as long as they don't meet other rules that would outright block the message (blocked attachment types for example).

Note
Note: You can only Whitelist Allow list a sender after a message from them has been quarantined, you cannot do it ahead of time.
