Microsoft Apps Blank Sign-in Screen

Problem

You may find Teams, Outlook, or another Microsoft Office app presenting a blank sign in page similar to the screenshot below.

Solution

Teams

  1. Close Teams. make sure it's not showing in the system tray. If it is, right click on it and click Quit.


  2. Open the following folder, replacing <username> with your login name:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams

  3. Find the file named "settings.json" or "settings" if file type extensions are hidden


  4. Delete the settings file
  5. Open Teams.
    1. If you get the blank sign in window click the X in the upper right and you should be presented with a new sign in screen. Follow the prompts to sign in.

Outlook/Office

Editing the registry incorrectly can cause issues and render your computer unusable. If you are not comfortable doing the following steps on your own STOP and contact FASS IT at fassit@uoregon.edu or 6-2455.
  1. Close Outlook completely.

  2. Click Start and type "regedit". You should see a screen similar to this open:


  3. Browse to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity


  4. Select Identity and then right click in the open space on the right side and select New → DWORD (32-bit) Value


  5. Name the new value "EnableADAL" and leave the Data as 0 (zero)


  6. Open Outlook and follow the sign in prompts. If you do not get a sign in prompt do the following:
    1. Click Start → type "Control Panel" → open Control Panel
    2. Open Mail (it may have 32-bit or Microsoft Outlook 2016 next to it)


    3. Click Show Profiles...


    4. Remove all existing profiles


    5. Click OK and launch Outlook again. Follow the prompts to sign in.

OneDrive

  1. Right click on the OneDrive icon and click Settings
  2. Click the Account tab at the top and then click Unlink this PC. Follow the prompts, allowing it to unlink.
  3. Close OneDrive by going to the system try and right clicking on the icon and click Close OneDrive


  4. Click Start → Settings (gear icon)


  5. Click Accounts


  6. Click Email & accounts


  7. If you don't have any accounts listed click Add an account
    1. If your account is listed, click on it and then click Manage to remove it from your computer.
    2. A web page will open and click Sign out everywhere (this will cause you to have to sign in again to all Microsoft apps and services the next time you open them)
  8. After clicking Add an account, follow the prompts to sign in, selecting Office 365


  9. If prompted to allow your organization to manage your device, select Yes.
  10. After signing in launch OneDrive and enter your email address. OneDrive should complete signing in and present you with a welcome prompt.
