If you need to review or export recorded video in Milestone, follow this step by step guide.
Please contact fassit@uoregon.edu if you have questions or need further assistance. Any inquiries related to a criminal investigation should go to UOPD.
Launching Milestone XProtect Smart Client
- Log in to a machine with the Milestone XProtect Smart Client software.Â
- Once logged in, launch the Milestone XProtect Smart Client. The icon should be on the desktop.Â
- If this it the first time you've opened the client on this specific machine, you will need to delete the entry (localhost) for the "Computer:" name on the splash and type "milestone.uoregon.edu" if your computer is on the UO public network. If your computer is on the private network the server name will be "uopd-vms-sv6". Please contact your IT support if you are unsure which network you are on.
- If you are on the UOPD domain (pd.uopd.org) follow step C below, otherwise you can skip to step 3 and just click Connect after changing the Computer field.
- Change Authentication to "Windows authentication" instead of "Windows authentication (current user)" and type your DuckID and password in. Make sure to put the "ad\" in front of your username.
- Check the box for "Auto-login" if you want the client to automatically log in for you the next time you open it.

- Once you are logged in you will see a bar with tabs across the top of the screen. This is where you select Live, Playback, or Setup (to create/edit views).
- On the left side of the window you have your "Views". These are pre-created views that you have permission to view along with your own Private folder to create and edit views that only you can see. For the purpose of this How-To we will only be working within the Private folder.
- On the right side of the widows you have your video cells. This is where you can view live or recorded video. Double clicking on a cell will enlarge that specific camera to full screen. Double clicking again will return it to normal size.
Setting up a view for playback
This setup can be skipped if a pre-created view with the cameras you need is already available. Most building already have a view under "UOPD" that you can select and use.
- Click "Setup" in the upper right corner of the client window. It should turn orange and video will be paused.
- Right click on Private under Views and select "New Group".
- Type a new for the group such as "Review" or "My group".
- Press Enter to save the name.
- Type a new for the group such as "Review" or "My group".
- Right click on the group you just created and then select "New View" and then select a cell grid that closely matches your anticipated camera setup for reviewing video.
- You can create, edit, and delete as many views as needed in your Private folder.

- When you are done adding cameras to your view, click Setup in the upper right again. Your view is now setup and ready for live view and playback.
Playing back recorded video
